Gbenga Ogunbote has insisted that Osun United were no pushovers despite them losing scandalously 4-0 to Remo Stars at the ongoing Ogunjobi Gold Cup in Ikenne.

The rescheduled Group A match, saw Noah Ojuola scoring the Sky Blue Stars first while Ojukwu Ifeogwu shot a hat trick past a helpless Omoluabi Giants goalkeeper.

“It’s still a pre-season and it is too early to dance. What we are trying to do is to put the team to shape, and get to know the strength and weaknesses of the squad,” said Ogunbote in his post-match reaction.

“Osun United are not a poor side as the scoreline did not reflect their game, ordinarily, we were wasteful as we should have scored close to eight goals but they defended well too.

“Mind you there were also no pushovers,
going forward I think if they can put their passes together and work as a team, they will make something out of it.

“Thumbs up to the organizers of the 9th edition of the Ogunjobi Gold Cup, the pre-season tournament has helped us. We have seen a few areas where we ought not to have allowed.

“Nonetheless, the objective of every coach is to ensure that he has a compact team that can compete in the league, so Remo Stars will approach the games in the tourney with a winning mindset.”

Remo Stars renew their rivalry with MFM FC in a bid to claim the bragging rights of the Southwest derby today (Sunday) at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
