Nigeria’s D’Tigress pulled off a famous victory over Australia as they beat the Opals 75-62 in their opening game of the Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament on Monday.
The win was Nigeria’s first at the Olympics in 20 years.
Ezinne Kalu was Nigeria’s top performer in the keenly contested encounter, with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals
Rena Wakama’s side capitalized on Australian turnovers to win the game.
D’Tigress had a slow start and trailed by eight points at the end of the first quarter.
They however rallied and led 41-28 at half time.
Australia fought back and reduced the gap to just four points by the end of the third quarter.
D’Tigress stood up to the challenge and claimed a famous 75-62 victory at the end of the day.
