Team Nigeria boxers in the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualifier in Dakar Senegal put up another distinctive performance as 6 qualified into the semi-finals.
Eight out of the nine boxers reached the quarter-final but only 6 of them were able to cross into the semi-final.
In the women’s category, Cynthia Ogunsemilore Temitope beat Kenyan Mwangi Teresiah Wanjiru in round 1 at the Quarter-final stage of Women’s 60kg and UK-base Patricia Mbat Adanma Epelle also beat Mwika Marie-Joelle from Democratic Republic of Congo by a unanimous decision (5-0) at Quater-final stage of Women’s 75kg to progress to Semi-final.
Ojo Nene Joy thrashed Algerian Selmouni Chahira in round 3 after 3 knock-downs to qualify for the semi-final stage of the women’s 57kg and Oyesiji Adeola Omowunmi also beat Zambian Tembo Margret on Points at Women’s 50kg to progress to the semi-final stage.
In the male category: UK-based Olaore Olaitan Adams defeated host country, Kebe Karamba of Senegal at Men’s 92kg by a unanimous decision (5-0 ) and Dolapo Joshua knocked out Ndevelo Tryagain Morning from Namibia with a left hook in round 1 of Men’s 57kg to progress to Semi-final stage of the ongoing Boxing Africa Olympic Qualifier in Dakar, Senegal.
