The Super Falcons of Nigeria are looking at the window of opportunity opened by FIFA’s deduction of six points from Canada for espionage.

According to Nigeria’s coach, the deduction means no third-placed team can qualify from Group A of the tournament. The group comprises of Colombia, France, Canada and New Zealand.

With three groups, the top two of each will qualify for the quarter finals directly while two of the best third placed in the three groups will join.

Canada with six-points deducted are third in Group A and like Nigeria, they are with no point, although they have won two matches. If the point deduction is applied with forfeiture of two matches and the attendant six goal deficit, they will technically be out of reckoning as one of the best third placed.

Waldrum said that even if Nigeria had drawn the game with Spain, they still need a result in the last in Wednesday’s match against Japan.

However, all hope not lost if Nigeria beat Japan on Wednesday and Spain beat Brazil.
