Former Indomitable Lions of Cameroon striker, Roger Milla said he was happy meeting with players he once played against after over twenty years.
Milla was honoured in Qatar by FIFA shortly before Switzerland versus Cameroon match for being the only player to score at the World Cup at 42 years.
Switzerland beat Cameroon in their first match at Al Janoub stadium in Doha on November 24.
Milla received an award from FIFA President Gianni Infantino for his contribution to African and world football and for being the oldest goalscorer in FIFA World Cup history.
“I’m very happy and proud for my family, for the whole of Cameroon. I would like to thank the FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, as well as the whole of FIFA, for that gesture that goes straight to my heart. I’m also sure it goes straight to the heart of all the Cameroonian people. Roger Milla said after receiving award from FIFA president, Gianni Infantino.
He continued, “The best moments? Meeting with friends playing for other countries. The fact of meeting them again here and telling anecdotes about the games back then is the best moment for me.”
“I think that football is really important in the world, maybe even more important than politics because sometimes people hate each other but we unite them! It’s all about education, it’s all about friendship! But we need to have peace. That’s why football is very important in the world.”
Having lost the first match to Switzerland, Cameroon will need outright win against Serbia on Monday to raise hope of their qualification into the next round. Serbia also lost to former World champions, Brazil in their group opener.
