The reason Nigeria’s Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen is yet to sign a contract extension with the Italian Serie A champions Napoli has been revealed.
The President of the club Aurelio De Laurentiis and Osimhen seem to have agreed on the extension but the new contract is yet to be signed.
According to the Italy news outlet La Gazzetta, the release clause and image right are the two issues yet to be sorted out.
Club president Aurelio Di Laurentiis is currently deciding on the release clause, whether to set it at €140 million or €150 million. A final call is imminent soon.
Another reason for the indecision of the contract renewal is the lack of agreement on image rights.
At the time of his purchase from Lille, the Neapolitans allowed the Nigerian striker to keep all the proceeds from sponsorships.
However, now the amount is set to be higher than before and both parties are yet to come to a consensus on that.
After representing Nigeria in the final group game of the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifier, Osimhen is set to return to action for Napoli this weekend.
