Omonia Nicosia right back Abdullahi Shehu has shared his thoughts on the recall of former Manchester United and Watford attacker Odion Ighalo to the Super Eagles for the national team’s 2022 World Cup qualifying matches against Liberia and Cape Verde.
The Al-Shabab star called time on his international career shortly after the conclusion of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, where he won the top scorer award, but is being persuaded by Nigeria Football Federation chief Amaju Pinnick and manager Gernot Rohr to reverse his decisionBased on his recent media remarks, it is unclear if Ighalo will accept the invitation to link up with the Super Eagles more than two years after his last international appearance.
Shehu has highlighted the qualities the 32-year-old would bring to the current Super Eagles team if he shows up in Morocco next week.
“We are all happy to have Ighalo back in the team. With his experience Ighalo is a top,top player that everyone looks up to him,”
Shehu said on SuperSport’s Naija Made.”To have Ighalo back in the team is good for all of us, he will help the team I am sure of that and the coach trusts him and we trust him too.”With his experience I think a lot of players there in the team will learn a lot from him so we are happy to have him back.”
Ighalo is proving that he’s still deadly in front of goal, with nine in eleven appearances in the Saudi Professional League so far this season.
