London side Arsenal have been urged to sign Bayer Leverkusen and Nigeria international star Victor Boniface in January as they continue to be linked with a striker for the transfer window ahead.
The Gunners have managed to push Manchester City in many ways over the past year in races for the title, but one separating factor can boil down to forwards.
In Erling Haaland, City have a clinical striker who may not always be involved in the play but is always on hand to reliably finish chances and even half-chances. The 23-year-old scored over 50 goals last season across all competitions on the team’s way toward a historic treble.
For Mikel Arteta, his options are Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, a duo that has had their fair share of success too, but in different ways. The former is less of a box striker as he looks to float and create opportunities for others with his selfless play, but it often means he lacks goals.
Nketiah is slightly different in the fact that he is a striker who likes to occupy the opposition box and has shown clinical streaks but perhaps not to the higher end of consistency. It has, naturally, seen Arsenal linked with the possibility of signing another striker in the January transfer window.
Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen have been rumored as possible targets, but perhaps their next target is a far less obvious move. That could be Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface, who has impressed since making the switch from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise in the summer.
The Nigerian international has scored seven goals and assisted five in his ten Bundesliga matches so far, helping Xabi Alonso’s side sit top of the table. Whether he would be ready for a move so quickly remains to be seen, but an international team-mate of his believes Arsenal should snap up a deal.
That being John Ogu, a 35-year-old midfielder who has seen it all through Nigerian football in his time with the international team, and he has sent a message to Arsenal on social media, saying: “Dear Arsenal, don’t sleep on @boniface_jrn [Victor Boniface]. Our solution.” That comes four years after he predicted that Osimhen would be worth over £100million, believing he would be a superstar.
