The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has terminated the contract of the Golden Eaglets coach, Nduka Ugbade.
This follows the contract domiciled with the federation which was performance-based.
A reliable source from the federation who pleaded anonymity said, “One thing I am sure of is that Ugbade’s contract is performance-based. Had he failed to qualify for the U17 AFCON at the West African Football Union (WAFU) B competition in Cape Coast, Ghana, the contract would have been automatically ended but the contract continued because he led the team to lift the trophy and qualified for the CAF U17 AFCON, in Algeria.
“So, since he has failed to pick the World Cup ticket, that automatically means sacked and he (Ugbade) knows that.”
“However, it has not been officially announced that he has been sacked” he concluded.
Recall the Eaglets had a brilliant run at the regional WAFU 17 tournament as they went unbeaten and claimed the title, beating Burkina Faso 2-1 in the final.
But at AFCON, Ugbade’s Eaglets were not convincing enough, as the 5-time world champions lost one group game to Morocco Atlas Cubs and in the quarter-final, lost the Junior Stallions 2-1.
