The race for the European Golden Boot award may well be under raps with Norwegian international and Manchester City’s forward Erling Braut Haaland leading the pack with 32 league goals, nine more than second-placed Harry Kane on 23.

The quagmire comes in the third position having Nigerian international and Napoli’s talisman Victor James Osimhen with 21 league goals to his name, surprisingly ahead of Ecuadorian and Fernabahce’s Ener Valencia in fourth, with 27 goals in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Recall that the European Golden Boot ranking is calculated based on UEFA’s season coefficient per league, which pits the English Premier League ahead of the Dutch Eredivisie.

On the UEFA ranking for the 2022-23 campaign, England take first position, with 4 teams still in Europe with Italy coming second with six teams in Europe. In sixth is the Netherlands, which tilts the coefficient in favor of Victor Osimhen over Enner Valencia.

Domestically, Osimhen runs the Italian Série A goals chart having scored 7 goals more than second-placed Lautaro Martinez on 14 goals, with Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman of Atalanta sitting third with 13 strikes to his name.

Napoli holds firmly to the pole position on the Serie A table, as Osimhen sits at the top of the goals chart, with sight on the UCL semis, adding more feathers to a successful campaign so far for the Lagos-born striker.

How Are Coefficients Calculated?

According to Uefa.com the UEFA club coefficient rankings are based on the results of all European clubs in UEFA club competition.

The association club coefficient or country rankings take into account the results of all clubs from each association and are used to determine the number of entries an association is granted for forthcoming seasons.

The club coefficient rankings take into account the results of each club in the UEFA club competition and are used to determine a club’s seeding in club competition draws.

The coefficients – from which the rankings are formed and which are based on performances over the last five seasons – will be updated directly after each completed round of UEFA club competition matches.
