The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has denied engaging German tactician, Winfried Schafer as Super Eagles Coach.
Contrary to report in some media, the federation, though, still in search of a new gaffer for the 2023 African Nations Cup finalists, claimed it never had discussion with the 74-year old German.
A top official of the NFF, speaking anonymously explained: “we are not aware of that. He stated.
“Though the federation is still searching for a befitting coach for the Super Eagles but we are not in contact with Schafer.”
Winfried “Winnie” Schäfer (born 10 January 1950) is a German football manager and former player. He has played for and managed Borrusia Monchengladbach, managed VFB Stuttgart, Cameroon, Al Ain and Al Akor as his last club in 2021
Austin Eguavoen was drafted to lead the 2013 African champions in the Matchday 1 and 2 of the 2025 African Nations Cup qualifier against Benin Republic and Rwanda. Super Eagles humiliated Benin Republic with a 3-0 thrashing in Nigeria and played a 0-0 draw with Rwanda in Kigali to top the AFCON Qualifier Group D table with four points.
