Nigeria’s Super Eagles coach Finidi George has made it clear that the players know what is at stake and have resolved to give their best in today’s world cup qualifying game against Benin Republic.
Super Eagles dropped to the 5th position in the group following their 1-1 draw against the Bafana Bafana of South.
They are to face the Cheetahs of Benin on Monday (today) and Finidi insisted that the players are prepared to go for three points.
“We’re very much aware of why we are here and what we have to do. The players want to go to the World Cup and they have resolved to give their all in every game going forward.
We had our opportunities against South Africa on Friday and should have won, but that is gone and we face another challenge now,” Finidi told thenff.com.
“We have resolved not to look too far ahead in this race.
The essence is to take it one match at a time. The Benin Republic is in our front now, and we must deal with that squarely”, he added
Less fancied Lesotho topped Group C table with five points while Rwanda, Benin Republic and South Africa are in second, third and fourth positions respectively with four points apiece. The 2023 AFCON silver medalists are placed 5th with just three points from three matches. A win for Nigeria in today’s game against Benin Republic will see.the 2013 African champions temporarily climb to the top of the table.
