Spurs boss Mourinho hints at early Gareth Bale injury return

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has, on Monday, provided an update on the fitness of Gareth Bale, following the Welshman’s return to the club.

Spurs back on song

On the back of a difficult opening to the new season two weeks ago, ongoings at Tottenham have of course taken a turn for the better over the last week.

First, in something of a bolt from the blue, Daniel Levy and co. secured a pair of much-needed reinforcements to Jose Mourinho’s squad.

Late on Saturday evening, the Lilywhites confirmed the arrival of highly-regarded left-back Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid.

And this was swiftly following by a 2nd signing from Los Blancos, as ex-Spurs standout Gareth Bale sealed a return to his former stomping ground on loan for the season ahead.

The club’s work behind the scenes, however, proved far from the only positive takeaway from this past weekend.

Less than 24 hours after sealing deals for both Reguilon and Bale, the capital giants took to the pitch, for a Premier League meeting with Southampton.

And, despite having fallen behind early on, Spurs eventually went on to run riot at St. Mary’s, bagging their first 3-point haul of the campaign courtesy of a 5-2 win.

‘Shorten the period of recovering…’

As such, for the first time in some time, there finally appears to be genuine cause for optimism on the Tottenham half of north London.

The Lilywhites’ aforementioned downing of Southampton on Sunday of course saw two players in particular steal the headlines, amid a staggering attacking display.

The pair in question were Heung-min Son and Harry Kane, the former of whom found the back of the net 4 times at St, Mary’s, all set up by strike partner Kane.

As such, the Spurs faithful have understandably begun to express their excitement regarding the prospect of their already-lethal front-2 joining forces with, when fit, one of world football’s most explosive attackers.

Speaking to the media earlier today, Jose Mourinho was therefore drawn on exactly when new signing Bale could take to the pitch for his 2nd debut for the club.

As revealed upon his arrival, the Welshman is currently nursing a knee problem, which was expected to keep him out of action for around 4 weeks.

Mourinho, though, has hinted that Bale’s eagerness to pull on the Tottenham jersey once again could in fact see his spell on the sidelines ‘shortened’:

‘I don’t know when Gareth can be back.’

‘The only thing that I know is that the motivation is high, he is so happy to be with a club of his heart, he is so happy to play for us and when a player has this motivation, many, many times you can shorten the period of recovering and shorten the period of getting fit and ready to play and we want to help him.’

‘So when he is available to train with the team, we are more than happy to have him and to be back to a level that [is] maybe one of the best players in the world.’
