The National Environment Management Council (NEMC) has launched an environmental awareness initiative targeting farmers, pastoralists, and fishers in the Kilimanjaro, Arusha, and Manyara regions.

Benjamin Doto, the manager of NEMC, led this out during the Nane Nane exhibitions at the Njiro grounds in Arusha.

He said the program aims to provide knowledge on conducting Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), enforcing the Plastic bag ban, registering projects with NEMC through the electronic system (PMS), tackling noise pollution, and managing environmental complaints.

Mr. Doto said the initiative is part of the council’s commitment in implementing the Environmental Management Act of 2004.

Benjamin said: “We are focusing on educating the public, especially farmers, pastoralists, and fishers, to ensure compliance with the 2004 Environmental Management Act and its associated regulations, including the 2005 Environmental Impact Assessment and Audit Regulations and the 2015 Noise and Vibration Control Regulations.”
