Updates on the fitness of Barcelona pair Ousmane Dembele and Antoine Griezmann have been forthcoming online, ahead of the club’s upcoming showdown with Napoli.
Barca back in action
Quique Setien’s men are set to get their European campaign back underway next weekend.
After relinquishing their La Liga crown to arch rivals Real Madrid on the back of some dismal performances since football’s return last month, the Blaugrana will no doubt be desperate to salvage their season with a deep Champions League run.
Standing in their way at present? Serie A giants Napoli.
The last-16 tie between the sides sits on a knife-edge as things stand, following a 1-1 first-leg stalemate.
After Dries Mertens handed the hosts an early lead at the Stadio San Paolo back in February, Antoine Griezmann bagged a potentially crucial away goal for Barca 10 minutes into the 2nd-half.
Barca squad latest
Ahead of their season-defining rematch with Napoli at the Camp Nou, however, the news has not exactly been of a positive nature for Barcelona.
They are currently dealing with a whole host of problems on the personnel front.
With both Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet already struggling with respective injuries, another of the Blaugrana’s central defenders, in the form of youngster Ronaldo Araujo, picked up an ankle sprain last weekend.
This leaves Quique Setien, as things stand, with just one fully-fit centre-half (Gerard Pique).
Barca’s personnel issues, however, do not end with their backline.
Midfielder Arthur, set to join Juventus this summer, is widely reported to be refusing to link back up with his teammates in Catalunya.
And, on top of all of these problems come the respective fitness struggles of attackers Ousmane Dembele and Antoine Griezmann.
The latter missed Barcelona’s La Liga run-in due to a muscle injury, with long-term absentee Dembele having not taken to the pitch since last November, after suffering a recurrence to a hamstring problem in February.
As outlined above, though, updates on the fitness of both players have been forthcoming online over the last 24 hours.
And, in a timely boost for Barcelona, it is good news all round.
As per the reliable Ben Hayward of the Evening Standard, Griezmann and Dembele have both returned to training this week.
It is added that the latter is unlikely to feature versus Napoli following such a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but Griezmann looks set to be in contention.
The aforementioned Clement Lenglet, meanwhile, was also pictured back in training yesterday.
