Tottenham eyeing Joe Rodon deal before close of domestic window

Tottenham’s busy window

Spurs enjoyed a productive 2020/21 summer transfer window, landing five senior players in total.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was first through the door, with Matt Doherty having followed shortly after.

The Lilywhites then managed to pry Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale away from Real Madrid, though the latter has only joined on loan.

And, most recently, after what felt like an age, Spurs finally brought in a backup for Harry Kane, landing Carlos Vinicius on a season-long loan from Benfica.

Tottenham eyeing Rodon

One area in which Tottenham failed to strengthen this summer, however, was centre-back.

This was not due to a lack of effort on the part of the north Londoners, though, with Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar having been heavily linked to Spurs over recent weeks.

But, when Monday’s deadline passed, evidently, no move was forthcoming.

As such, Spurs’ fans no doubt assumed that their hopes of landing a new centre-half for the season ahead were all but over.

However, on Tuesday, the Evening Standard have suggested otherwise.

Though the international transfer deadline for Premier League clubs has now passed, the domestic window remains open until October 16th, meaning Spurs can still land players from the EFL.

And the Lilywhites, in turn, appear to have identified one such target. The player in question comes in the form of Swansea City stopper, Joe Rodon.

Rodon is a product of the Swans’ youth system, and has been a regular fixture in the Welsh outfit’s backline over the last few seasons.

The Standard, though, suggest that he could soon be on the move, with Spurs hopeful of striking a deal for around £7 million.

Swansea, for their part, are said to value Rodon, who is under contract until 2022, at closer to £18 million.

Despite the clear gap in valuation, however, Tottenham are understood to remain hopeful of sealing Rodon’s signature before the close of the domestic window.
