Tottenham want to sign Crystal Palace’s Alexander Sorloth

Alexander Sorloth has become the latest striker to be linked with a move to Tottenham this summer.

Who is Alexander Sorloth?

Sorloth, a 24-year-old centre-forward, joined Crystal Palace in January of 2018.

The Eagles are understood to have paid just over £8m for the Norwegian, though his brief spell at the club has been somewhat underwhelming to date.

In fact, during his first year at the club, Sorloth would find the back of the net on a solitary occasion across 20 outings.

Sorloth was then loaned to Belgian outfit Genk for the second half of 2019/20, where he endured another largely underwhelming spell.

After briefly returning to Selhurst Park in the summer of 2019, the hitman was then shipped back out on loan – this time to Turkish outfit Trabzonspor for two years.

And unlike his previous two moves, Sorloth has gone on to excel with his new club, notching 33 goals and 11 assists across 43 outings.

Tottenham eyeing Sorloth

Such solid form has, unsurprisingly, seen the Crystal Palace man garner interest from elsewhere in Europe.

The president of Trabzonspor claimed on Sunday that both Tottenham and RB Leipzig are interested in Sorloth’s services.

And though the player has only just entered the second year of his two-year loan stint in Turkey, Sorloth is believed to be keen to depart the club:

“Sorloth wants to go. But there is no way that we will agree immediately for every player who wants to leave. We are meeting with Leipzig and Tottenham, ourselves and Crystal Palace.”

Jose Mourinho was then drawn on said comments after Tottenham’s clash with Everton on Sunday. However, the Portuguese tactician remained rather coy on the situation, simply stating:

“I’m not going to discuss Sorloth. If the president of Trabzonspor told that I’m not going to say that it’s not true. I think Sortloth is Trabzonspor player and it’s not for me to speak about.”

The Times have now, on Monday, provided some further insight into the situation.

First up, they, of course, confirm that Tottenham do indeed want to sign Sorloth. However, their striking of a deal for the forward does depend on his current loan spell being brought to a premature end.

This issue could be further complicated by Crystal Palace not having an option to cut short his loan, with the Times suggesting the Eagles may have to come to a financial agreement with Trabzonspor before selling him on.

As well as needing to end his loan spell, Spurs also look to be facing competition from RB Leipzig for Sorloth’s signature.

The Bundesliga high-flyers are believed to have submitted an offer for Sorloth that could potentially rise to £19.5m, suggesting Spurs would at least have to match that sum to land the 24-time capped international.
