10-man Plateau United defeated Rivers United in a five-goal thriller in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, rescheduled game decided at the Jos City Stadium.
Andy Okpe opened scoring for the Pride of Rivers after he converted from the spot in the 26th minutes after the referee adjudged a handball incident against Moses Adikwu.
In-form attacking sensation, Albert Hillary restored parity from the spot with two minutes left before half-time for his ninth goal of the season.
At the restart, the hosts took the lead in the 54th minutes via Muhammed Umar before Endurance Ebedeberi drew level in the 64th minutes from the spot for Rivers United.
With 16th minutes left on the clock, the hosts were reduced to 10-men after Moses Adikwu was sent off for a second bookable offense after handling the ball in his attempt to convert Daniel Itodo’s throw.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Plateau United got the winner with three minutes left on regulation time. Adam Yakubu fired a rocket into the net from outside the box for the hosts, who held on to secure the victory.
Rivers United will now turn their attention to their next game in Port Harcourt as they hosts Akwa United while Plateau United welcome Enyimba International.
