The senior national women’s team of India ended 2024 with a demolition of the Maldives, winning 14-0 at the Padukone-Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence.
The FIFA friendly was the first game for newly appointed Swedish coach, Joakim Alexandersson.
Nicknamed the Blue Tigresses, India led 8-0 at halftime and went on to hit six more goals in the second period to complete the rout.
The two sides will meet again on Thursday, January 2nd in the second leg of their double-tie friendlies.
The result is one of the Blue Tigresses’ biggest-ever victory margins in international football. In 2010, India defeated Bhutan 18-0 in the SAFF Championship in Bangladesh.
