West Ham ‘confident’ of agreeing new deal with Michail Antonio/Player set for pay rise

West Ham’s Michail Antonio looks set to be rewarded for his fine form during the latter stages of the 2019/20 season with a new deal.

Antonio keeps Hammers up

West Ham’s 2019/20 campaign wasn’t exactly spectacular.

The Hammers endured a torrid start to the season, eventually resulting in Manuel Pellegrini being sacked, and David Moyes replacing the former Manchester City boss in late December.

Moyes had previously guided the Londoners away from relegation during the 2017/18 season, and a similar upturn was required this time around, with West Ham having been teetering above the bottom three upon his appointment.

The Irons did endure some rough patches under Moyes, but finally managed to hit their stride once the campaign restarted in June.

In fact, Moyes’ men lost just one of their last seven league outings, lifting them to 16th in the English top-flight table, five points clear of the relegation zone upon the season’s conclusion.

One man who was absolutely instrumental in West Ham’s survival, meanwhile, was Michail Antonio.

The forward didn’t enjoy the greatest season overall, but his form after the restart, especially in July, was sensational.

In fact, during the month of July alone, Antonio racked up eight goals and one assist in the Premier League – a record which saw him clinch the season’s final Player of the Month award:

Antonio set for new deal

And, as outlined above, Antonio’s sensational run of form over the final weeks of 2019/20 now looks set to earn the Englishman a pay rise.

The 30-year-old has just under 12 months remaining on his current West Ham contract.

And whilst The Guardian report that the Hammers have the option to extend this deal by a further two years, the board at the London Stadium instead look set to reward Antonio with improved terms.

The attacker is currently believed to earn around £70,000-a-week, but could now join the likes of Jack Wilshere, Sebastian Haller and more on wages of closer to £100k-per-week.
