West Ham knocked back in £27m James Tarkowski bid amid claims Burnley want £50m

An update surrounding West Ham’s pursuit of Burnley star James Tarkowski has been forthcoming online on Tuesday.

Tarkowski’s Burnley stint

Tarkowski has spent the last 4-and-a-half years plying his trade at Turf Moor, since signing from Brentford back in February of 2016.

Burnley are understood to have paid just over £3.5m to land the stopper.

And this fee has since proven a real bargain, with Tarkowski having long established himself as a key cog in the Clarets’ solid backline.

All told, the 27-year-old has notched 143 appearances across all competitions for Burnley, including all 38 of the club’s 2019/20 league fixtures, across which Tarkowski played every minute.

West Ham eyeing Tarkowski

Such impressive displays have, inevitably, piqued the interest of several other clubs, though.

Last year, for example, the Burnley standout was heavily linked with Leicester City, as a potential Harry Maguire replacement.

That move evidently didn’t come to pass, but, this summer, yet another Premier League outfit appear to be pushing to pry Tarkowski away from Turf Moor.

The club in question come in the form of West Ham United, a side clearly in need of defensive reinforcements.

And now, as mentioned above, an update on the Hammers’ pursuit of Tarkowski has come to light on Tuesday.

As per Sky Sports News, West Ham have had a £27m bid for the centre-half rejected.

It is added that Burnley are not under pressure to sell Tarkowski, who has two years left on his current contract, and have slapped a £50m price-tag on one of their most prized assets.

Sean Dyche also recently commented on the potential sale of Tarkowski, though the Clarets boss admitted that every member of his squad ultimately ‘has a price’:

“Do players have a price at any club? Yes they do. At a club like this, eventually there is a price. We’ve seen that across football that eventually a day comes when someone hits a certain number, all clubs have to make a decision. If that comes, the chairman and the board will control that situation but we are in a very strong position and are not in the business of letting our best players go on the cheap.

“Not many clubs around the world that will refuse everything they are offered. Eventually they make a decision. That is not there yet and nor do I want it.”
