Woman burnt with hot oil in row over chama contribution in Homa Bay

A 33-year-old man is nursing serious injuries after a fight over a merry-go-round contribution became violent in Kachien, Homa Bay.

Witnesses say Josephine Akinyi was burnt with hot oil on the chest and thighs after disagreeing on who was to receive the monthly contribution.

The Kachien North Chief Jacob Adienge confirmed the incident, saying the suspect and the victim had both laid claim to the chama money.

The two reportedly got into an argument that quickly degenerated into a nasty fisticuff.

The area chief further said that the suspect then whisked a pan from which potato chips were cooking and poured the hot oil on the victim.

The woman was rushed to Nyalgosi dispensary for first aid before being referred to the Rachuonyo South Sub County hospital for further treatment.

The administrator says that police have launched a manhunt for the suspect who is still at large.
