107 Stranded Nigerians Return Home from Libya

On Tuesday, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) announced the successful evacuation of 107 stranded Nigerians from Tripoli, Libya.

The returnees arrived at the Cargo Wing of the Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos via Al Buraq Air Boeing 737-800 with registration number 5A-DMG at approximately 3:55 PM.

Among them were five female children, three male children, a male infant, and a female infant.

The Chief Relief and Rehabilitation Officer, Mr Aziz Afunku, represented the Director-General of NEMA, Mustapha Ahmed, in receiving the returnees.

Mr Ahmed confirmed that in March 2023, a total of 281 Nigerians were assisted to return home, including 105 who were repatriated. So far in April 2023, 259 Nigerians have been assisted to return to the country.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), with support from international partners, has been facilitating the return of distressed Nigerians stranded in Libya since 2017.
