Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso, Oyo state, has issued a ban on students bringing cars to the campus.

The decision was made by the university’s management following a traffic accident that occurred in March.

The Registrar of the institution, Kayode Ogunleye, addressed the students through a memo released on Tuesday. In the memo, he stated that “vehicles owned by students are hereby banned from entering the university campus.” The memo also prohibited staff members from using tinted cars.

The registrar warned that vehicles with no registration numbers will no longer be allowed on the campus, and roadside parking of vehicles should stop immediately.

The university’s head of security unit and dean of student affairs have been instructed to enforce the directive and take appropriate action against violators.

This ban is not the first of its kind, as several other tertiary institutions in Nigeria have implemented similar measures in the past, citing security reasons. Last year, Auchi Polytechnic in Edo state also prohibited its students from bringing cars to school.
