The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the police in Ogbomoso, Oyo State to conduct a thorough investigation of the circumstances surrounding the death of Jimoh Isiaq.
The president said this during the launch of the Presidential Youth Empowerment Scheme at the Federal Capital Territory.
He also vowed to ensure that an investigation will be carried out to prosecute officers, who have engaged in extrajudicial activities.
He stated, “We will also ensure that all those responsible for the misconduct or wrongful acts are brought to justice.
“We also deeply regret the loss of lives in Oyo State during the recent demonstrations.
“I have directed that the circumstances of his death should be thoroughly investigated.”
Buhari emphasized that the few bad eggs should not be allowed to destroy the image and reputation of the police.
Isiaq was murdered when police opened fire on protesters in Oyo State.
The #ENDSARS protests, which started on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, have been extended to different parts of the country.
It is noteworthy that the protesters had earlier requested the dissolution of SARS (Special Anti-Robbery Squad), which has been done. However, they are now demanding the total reformation of the Nigeria Police Force.
