The operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested three suspects over the alleged rape of a seven-month pregnant woman in Kwara state.
The suspects are identified as Lawal Ibrahim, 25; Mohammed Issa, 19; and Ibrahim Ahmed, 20.
The incident was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Ayeni Olasunkanmi, who disclosed that one of the three suspects, Lawal, was arrested while trying to sell some items stolen from the home of the couple.
Olasunkanmi stated:
“A case of rape and robbery was reported on the 5th July at the NSCDC Woro outpost. The crime was reported to have happened at Woro Village in Kaiama Local government area, Kwara state at about 2:00hrs.
“The victims; a seven months pregnant woman and her husband were allegedly attacked by the suspects in their house at Woro. The 7 months pregnant woman was allegedly raped and some items were carted away by the assailants.
“Upon getting the report, the state Acting Commandant, DCC Jonah Gabriel, gave order that the perpetrators be fished out.
“However, luck ran out on the suspects as one of them, Lawal Ibrahim, was arrested by our men while he was trying to dispose of the stolen items.”
After his arrest, Lawal gave some confessional statements which eventually led to the arrest of the other two suspects.
Following his arraignment before an Area court in Kaiama, Justice Usman Lukman ordered that the suspects be remanded at the Federal correctional Centre, New Bussa, till July 27, 2022.
