Anambra State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Foster Ihejiofor, disclosed on Wednesday that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has released a sum of N1 billion to empower women- based corporative societies across the 326 electoral wards in the state.
Dr Foster Ihejiofor made this known during a courtesy call to his office by Ultimate Business Women and Farmers Association of Nigeria (UBWFAN), explained that the fund would be for cooperative societies embarking on food production, adding that each electoral ward will receive N3 million.
According to Ihejiofor, the initiative would help to boost food production in the state, as well as encourage at least 8,000 women to live up to their expectations in agriculture.
“He is talking about each ward to get N 3 million for those in the agricultural sector and that would be about N 1 billion or so and such women organizations would also be factored in for special relationship to partner with the state government,” he revealed.
Meanwhile, the National President of the Ultimate Business Women and Farmers Association of Nigeria (UBWFAN), Hon Nkiru Nwagbo, said the visit was aimed at intimating the commissioner of the need to integrate women aspiration in their activities.
