Yobe State Govt Bans Vehicle Movement for Eid-el-Fitri Celebration

Yobe State government has announced a restriction on vehicular movement across the state ahead of Eid-el-Fitri prayers to mark the end of Ramadan fast.

The announcement was made by Abdullahi Bego, Director-General of Media and Press Affairs to the Governor in Damaturu on Monday.

According to Bego, the decision was taken in consultation with heads of security, intelligence, and law enforcement in the state, to ensure a peaceful and secure Eid prayer.

He said, “Pending the sighting of the new moon, the restriction will take effect from 10:00 p.m. tonight (Monday) to 10:30 a.m. tomorrow (Tuesday 4th June 2019). ln the event that the moon has not been sighted today, and the Ramadan fast will be observed tomorrow, Tuesday, the restriction will go into effect from 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.”

Governor Mai Mala Buni approved the restriction on vehicular movement to ensure a hitch-free Eid-el-Fitri celebration. In a statement, Bego quoted the governor as wishing all Muslim faithful a merry Sallah celebration in advance.

The restriction on vehicular movement is aimed at preventing any security breaches during the celebration.
