Nigeria’s Super Eagles roared to the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast with another comprehensive victory over Sao Tome and Principe.
Napoli forward Victor Osimhen was the hero again as he scored thrice in the 6-0 thrashing of Sao Tome.
Playing at the Goodswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, the host expectedly dominated the play and they were able to score the opening goal in the 14th minute through Osimhen.
Atalanta of Italy winger Ademola Lookman who assisted for the first goal doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 28th minute and ensured that the host returned to the locker room with a comfortable lead.
The second half resumed with Nigeria still dominating the game and Nottingham Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi made it 3-0 for Nigeria in the 52nd minute.
The Napoli man put the game on his head by scoring the 4th goal from the penalty spot and completing his hat trick later in the game while Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze completed the rout in the 86th minute of the game.
