Few days after the withdrawal of the U20 World Cup from Indonesia, the World soccer ruling body announced the withdrawal of the U17 World Cup from Peru.
FIFA withdrew the hosting right from Indonesia after the government refused Israel one of the qualified countries the opportunity to enter the country due to political indifference between the two nations.
Peru was supposed to have staged the tournament in 2021 but it was moved to 2023 due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
FIFA has been having extensive discussions with the football federation of Peru about their readiness but finally announced the hosting right withdrawal on Monday afternoon.
” FIFA has regretfully withdrawn Peru’s hosting rights to the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2023™ following extensive discussions between FIFA and the Peruvian Football Federation”, the statement from FIFA confirmed.
Peru last hosted the competition in 2003.
