The hope of Nigeria referees to be back on the international stage has been dashed once again, as they missed out on the list of match officials for the 2023 Women’s World released by FIFA.

In December 2022, the Confederation of African Football ( CAF) snubbed Nigeria’s referee from the list of officials for the 2023 Championship of African Nations in Algeria.

The World soccer governing body on Monday afternoon listed 33 referees, 55 assistant referees and 19 Video Assistant referees ( VAR).

FIFA picked 4 African referees: Vincentia Amedome, Bouchra Karboubi, Salima Mukansanga and Akhona Makalima while Mary Njoroge will work as an assistant referee.

“As always, the criteria we have used is ‘quality first’ and the selected on-field match officials represent the highest level of refereeing worldwide,” chairman of the FIFA Referees Committee, Pierluigi Collina said.

The competition will jointly be hosted by Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20.
