After suffering a 3-0 defeat to the Belgian club Anderlecht on Saturday, Ajax Amsterdam boss Maurice Steijn has urged Nigeria’s Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey to leave the club for a better future.
Bassey joined the Dutch side last summer from Scottish club Glasgow Rangers and he started strongly before injury slow him down.
English Premier League side Fulham FC are presently leading the race to sign the Nigeria international offering £21 million for his services.
On Sunday afternoon, the gaffer said if they can get a new central defender or left back, the playing opportunity of Bassey will be limited.
“He had a very tough year last season. Everyone gets a second chance and if he does better than anyone else he will play.
But chances are – especially if we get a left-backpack or left central defender – he won’t play”, the gaffer stated.
