We reveals all you need to know about Super Falcons’ goalie and penalty hero Chiamaka Cynthia Nnadozie, who also scooped the Group B opener’s Player of the Match award between Nigeria and Canada in the early hours of Friday July 21st, 2023.
Chiamaka Cynthia Nnadozie is not a new comer to individual accolades and game heroics, as she was also accorded the “Dare to Shine” Player of the Match award four years ago, in the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in France, when the Falconets filed out against Haiti in the second Group D game.
The game ended 1 nil in favor of the Falconets, who had lost the opener by similar scoreline against Germany, before sharing the spoils with China 1-1 in the third game of the Group series. That round recorded two goals conceded by Chiamaka who featured all through.
The U-20 side then lost 2-1 to Spain in the following round, to sum up 4 goals conceded in 4 games at the World Cup in 2019, which against favorable outcome was no mean feat for the 22-year-old who was age 18 at the time.
Chiamaka Cynthia Nnadozie was born on the 8th of December, 2000, and hails from the South Eastern region of Nigeria, specifically Orlu Town in Imo State, with an average height of 180 cm (5 ft 10′), weighing 69 kg, and is right footed.
The complete, quick-witted, solid all-round goalie, with a commanding presence and the ability to build-up play with her intelligent ball distribution, currently plays for Paris FC in the French Division 1 Féminine and internationally with the Super Falcons of Nigeria.
Nnadozie was the number one goalkeeper of the Flamingoes of Nigeria (U-17 Women’s national football team) before getting recruited into the Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt camp in 2016, where she spent four seasons, including the NWFL title winning season in 2019-20, while reaching the Federation Cup final that same year, albeit losing to the Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia.
Chiamaka has featured for the Super Falcons at the 2019 Women WAFU Cup, and the FIFA Women’s World Cup that same year where she became the youngest goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet at the World Cup in a 2-0 win over Korea.
After the World Cup, Nnadozie also kept the Falconets towards the Gold medal at the African Games in Morocco saving three penalties in the shootout against Cameroon.
She later move abroad to France, to join Paris FC On the 22nd of January 2020 where she currently plies her trade.
