A total of 18 Nigerian track and field athletes based in the United States of America are expected to join Nigeria’s camp in Accra, Ghana, for the 2024 Africa Games scheduled to hold in three Ghanaian cities next month.

A total of 18 Nigerian track and field athletes based in the United States of America are expected to join Nigeria’s camp in Accra, Ghana, for the 2024 Africa Games scheduled to hold in three Ghanaian cities next month. The Africa Games will hold in Accra, Cape Coast and Kumasi.

Already, a total of 33 local-based athletes, made up of 17 men and 16 women have started their camping in Abuja in readiness for the Games.

Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Samuel Onikeku, told The Guardian, yesterday, that the federation had already worked out modalities, including sorting out flight tickets for all the foreign-based athletes.

According to him, registration for athletics team for the Africa Games will close today.

“Registration of athletics team for the Africa Games will close tomorrow (today). We are expecting 18 of our athletes from U.S. to fly direct to Ghana to join our camp. Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume and Ruth Usoro are among those coming for the Games. I can also confirm that all our top throwers, like Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, Chioma Onyekwere, Ashley Anumba, Obiageri Amaechi and Nnamdi Chinecherem are part of our team. By tomorrow (today), the AFN will conclude on the list of all the foreign-based athletes listed for the Africa Games in Ghana,” Onikeku stated.
