With few weeks to the start of the Sahara Conference of the 2024 African Basketball League, American point guard Michael Dixon has left the APR basketball club after agreeing to a move to join Egyptian side Al Ittihad Alexandria.

The deal was completed earlier this week when the Egyptian club was in Rwanda for friendly games with the army side.

He is an experienced player with a career that has seen him play in the United States, Europe, and Africa.

He was named Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2022 Most Valuable Player (MVP) after playing a crucial role in helping Tunisia’s US Monastir win the continental club basketball championship in Kigali that same year.

His departure comes as a big blow for APR who were hoping to count on his services during the forthcoming Sahara Conference regular season which will be played in Dakar, Senegal, from May 4-12.

The Conference also comprises Tunisian powerhouse US Monastir, BAL 2023 runners-up AS Douanes of Senegal, and Nigerian Champions Rivers Hoopers.
