Nigeria and Union SG of Belgium star striker, Victor Boniface says that his team can make it to the Europa League semi-finals, as he cooled reports of his transfer to another top European team.
Union SG was held to a 1-1 draw on Thursday night by Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena and it was the summer acquisition that opened the scoring in the 51st minute, thus making him the joint-top scorer in the Europa League.
In the end, the German Bundesliga team was able to equalize as both teams shares the spoils.
Despite this, Boniface believes in his team’s chances of reaching the semi-finals.
“We knew it would be a difficult match, so we are happy with the draw. We can be proud that we are already there, against a very strong team. But now we are looking forward to the return match in Brussels,” the 22-year-old attacker told Het Nieuwsblad.
Boniface, who has been a subject of a transfer tussle between two Serie A giants, Napoli and Milan owing to his superb form, said he was not aware of any interest from top European clubs.
“I don’t know anything about any interest, I’m hearing it for the first time now. I’m not working on it either, I’m focusing on Union,” said the Nigerian.
