The Confederation of African Football, CAF has made it clear that the Video Assistant Referee, VAR is going to be used throughout all games at the 2022 African Cup of Nations, AOIFootball.com reports.
CAF disclosed that it has already informed all 24 participating countries that will be in Cameroon of the development. Therefore, rather than it being used only during the knockout stages like it was in Egypt 2019, all 52 games of the tournament will witness the use of the Video Assistant Referee, VAR.
According to the Confederation of African Football, the use of this technology in football has been made essential. CAF believes the VAR will minimize referee errors and therefore increase the likelihood of a fair tournament.
This revelation from CAF also means that the AFCON tournament in Cameroon will be the first by CAF to use the technology from the start.
The African Cup of Nations, Cameroon2022 will begin on January 9, 2022, and will run through to February 6, 2022.
