Edo Queens Arrive Ijebu-Ode for Super 6 Tourney

Edo Queens FC of Benin are the first Nigeria Women Footbal League, NWFL premiership club to land the town of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State for the NWFL Super 6 tournament slated to begin this weekend.

The Godwin Obaseki girls are among the top six female premiership team to qualify for the highly rated Super 6 tournament where two teams are expected to be selected to represent Nigeria at the maiden edition of the CAF organized Championship for African Women.

This is the first time Edo Queens FC is participating in the Super 6 Championship in Nigeria since the rebranding of the club by the Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu – administration in Edo State.

The super tournament is important and historic to Edo State because it is expected to give a face-lift to the development of female football in the State.

Edo Queens are currently fourth on the NWFL league log for the 2020/2021 premiership season with 23 points from.13 matches.

Aside Edo Queens other top clubs participating in the prestigious Super 6 tournament are: Bayelsa Queens FC of Yenagoa, Delta Queens FC, Rivers Angels FC of Port Harcourt, FC Robo of Lagos and Sunshine Queens of Akure.
Among these six top teams,the best two will be selected to fly the Nigeria flag at the African Women Championship.

Addressing the players shortly before before departure the ancient city of Benin today, Coach Stanley Osazee said Edo Queens is going to the championship to win the Super 6 and grab the ticket for the CAF championship.

“We are ready to do our State proud in this tournament, the players.are in high.spirit for the game, I know that we are the team to beat, but we are going to give good account of ourselves and at be among the two clubs that will hoist Nigeria flag at the continental level.”
