Egypt Minifootball National team emerged champions of the second African Minifootball Cup after a 1-0 defeat to Libya on Saturday.

The final played at the Ilaji Minifootball pitch in Ibadan saw Libya (last edition’s hosts) lost the opportunity of winning the title as the champions are too hot for them to handle.

No doubt, Egypt is the best team in the competition winning all matches on the road to final. The Pharaohs handed two defeats to Cote d’Ivoire (the favourites and former champions) in the group stage and Semifinal.

Egypt started on a brighter note after a 4-0 bashing to Burkina Faso and a 6-0 thrashing to Somalia before a hard-fought 3-2 win over Ivory Coast in the three group games.

Zambia were their quarterfinal victims with a 2-0 win. Another three goals were recorded against Ivory Coast in the match that ended 3-1 in the semifinal to set up a final showdown with Libya.

Meanwhile, Ivory Coast beat Ghana 2-0 in the third place match to win the bronze medal.

As it stands, Egypt, Libya, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Nigeria will fly the African flags at the Minifootball World Cup coming up in Ukraine.
