The President, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Ibrahim Gusau praises Gbenga Elegbeleye led Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) but knocks Shehu Dikko led League Management Company (LMC).

Gusau at the 2023/24 Nigeria Women’s Football League opener at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium Ado Ekiti highlighted the improvements witnessed by the league after one year Gbenga Elegbeleye led League Management took over.

The former NFF Chairman of Chairmen said, “Before we came on board, how do we played the league? Any host team won at all costs but if you observe, from last season when IMC took over, till the beginning of this season, there are a lot of changes to winning at all costs for home teams. Recently, we have recorded a lot of away wins and draws more than ever before now. Also, before now, there are always chaos whenever an away win was recorded, but that has gradually became history now. For instance, Bendel Insurance didn’t lose a match throughout last season. This has never happened in the history of Nigeria football. We cannot say that we are perfect but we are doing our best. If you are a follower of the league, you will know that there are significant improvements in many areas and we are going to continue doing our best.

He added, “Just last two weeks, about 14 referees were suspended and we have just started because we need to correct all the wrongs of the past league management.” He concluded.

With nearly a decade at the helm of affair of Nigeria Professional Football League, Shehu Dikko led League Management Company was disbanded by the Federal Government in September, 2022.
