Nigeria women 4×400 relay team has secured their qualification to the forthcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic games, as the men team failed to qualify again.
Patience Okon George led the trio of Favour Ofili, Imaobong Nse Uko and Knowledge Omovoh to finish top at the Lagos open athletics championship that took place at the Yaba Technology.
The result gave the Nigerian the opportunity to leapfrog Belarus (3:28.14), Australia (3:28.64) and Switzerland (3:28.77) to 13th position, ranked among the 16 country that will participate in the event.
The 4×100 women’s relay team led by US based Blessing Okagbare has qualified for the ancient games in the Sunday event.
Meanwhile, Nigeria men relay team failed to qualify again despite improving to 38.59 seconds.
Both 4×100 and 4×400 men’s team will have another chance to qualify on Sunday at MOC relay at the same venue.
