Victor Osimhen has been given the all-clear after COVID and surgery for facial fractures, resumed training with Napoli and hopes to make his comeback against Bologna next week.
The striker pulled out of international duty with Nigeria for the Africa Cup of Nations after testing positive for COVID-19 in December.
It was the second year running that he had contracted the virus while visiting his homeland over the Christmas break.
His participation in the tournament had also been in doubt after complex surgery on multiple facial fractures in November, caused by an accidental clash of heads with Inter defender Milan Skriniar.
Following his recovery from COVID, return to Italy and a specialist consultation with the professor who operated on his face, Osimhen received the all-clear to resume training.
The 23-year-old was seen at the Castel Volturno ground this morning, taking part in the full training session with his teammates.
Napoli face Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia Round of 16 tomorrow, but it is more likely Osimhen will be back in the squad for the Serie A game against Bologna on Monday.
If not, then it’ll be in the local derby with Salernitana on January 23. He is their top scorer this season with nine goals and two assists in 14 games between Serie A and the Europa League.
