Sporting Lagos clinched four points in two games plus bragging rights in the Southwest following a 2-1 win over Remo Stars at the ongoing Naija Super 8 pre-season championship.
The newly promoted Lagos-based club in the Nigeria Premier League fought well in front of Lagosians at the Onikan stadium as they showed no respect on the pitch to their Southwest counterpart Remo Stars.
It took 18 minutes for the crowd to roar as Frank Muawena headed home into an open post following up on a rebound missed by teammate Nwoke, to give Sporting Lagos the lead.
Saturday Okon then restored parity on Monday afternoon for Remo Stars in the 26th minute, after he rounded the goalkeeper to slot home nicely for a 1-1 scoreline before the half-time break after three minutes added on time.
The Mobolaji Johnson stadium rocked and rolled with band boys and supporters gearing for their respective team’s success, as the second half went underway.
Sporting Lagos was handed a lifeline to restore their lead in the 88th minute as the center referee pointed to the penalty spot for a foul caused by the Remo defender.
Although the initial spot-kick was missed, Chiemeka Nwoke pounced on the rebound to ensure Sporting Lagos gained all maximum points and stamp their authority as the new sheriff in the Southwestern town.
Sporting Lagos held Enyimba to a 1-1 draw in their first game, which culminated in four points from two games.
