Nottingham Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi has focused on winning the 2023 African Cup of Nations title with Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
The three-time African champion qualified for the biennial competition in June after they secured a 2-3 away win over the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone.
The lanky attacker was excited about the qualification but focused more on getting the trophy in Coted’Ivoire.
“I think everyone in the squad is happy; the first stage is to qualify for the AFCON, which we did already, then the next stage now is just to try everything possible to win the AFCON, which is the target for the country.
The last one was an experience, I was there and we are happy we are there again and of course, we want to go there and we want to win the trophy for sure,” he said.
Awoniyi was part of the Super Eagles team at the last AFCON and was on target in the final group game against Guinea Bissau.
