Super Eagles of Nigeria overpowered Ghanaian opponents 2-1 at the Stade de Marrakech in Morocco in a friendly game.

Finidi George began his reign with a win after he took over the job on an interim basis to hand Otto Addo’s first national team managerial loss.

Rangers FC Cyril Dessers who made a comeback to the national team after missing out of the AFCON gave Nigeria the lead from the penalty spot in the 38th minute as the Eagles head into half-time with a 0-1 lead.

Jerome Poku was handed a marching order in the in the 56th minute after a clumsy challenge to reduce Ghanaians down to ten men.

Ademola Lookman who replaced debutant Tanimu Benjamen in the 79th minute wasted no time to announce his presence, slicing in the second of the night in the 84th minute to put any hopes of the Blackstars comeback to death.

Captain Jordan Ayew reduced the deficit in more like a consolation scoring from the penalty kick in the 93rd minute.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have now broken the jinx back in 2008, they took the lead against the Black Stars of Ghana in a full senior international match via a penalty kick, a goal scored by Yakubu Aiyegbeni which they eventually lost 2-1.

Up next for Super Eagles is the friendly match against another African side in Mali.
