A Lagos trader, Kehinde Amusa, has appeared before the Orile-Agege Customary Court seeking the dissolution of her 16-year-old marriage, alleging that her husband, Sulaiman, had been abusive and irresponsible.

Ms. Amusa told the court that her husband had been assaulting her and their children, and had neglected his responsibilities, including paying their bills and children’s school fees.

She said, “My husband beats me without mercy, he doesn’t pay any of our bills, including children’s school fees. He beat our first child, and the boy started bleeding from the ears. I cannot endure it anymore.”

Sulaiman denied the allegations and pleaded with the court to reconcile them, stating, “When my wife and children were with me, I was taking care of them and paying their bills, including school fees. I still love my wife, and I want her back.”

The court president, Adewale Adegoke, ordered Sulaiman to pay N20,000 for the upkeep of their children and adjourned the case until April 25.

He urged both parties to maintain peace and come with their relations for possible resolution of their conflicts.
