Ghana, Cameroon held In Pre-AFCON Friendlies, Algeria Win Big

Some of the teams that will participate at the 34th edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire 2023 continued with friendlies ahead of the tournament that kicks off on Saturday.

While some other countries have concluded their camping exercise and have moved to the venue of the tournament, some are yet to arrive in Ivory Coast few days to the kickoff.

In order to perfect their tactical plans ahead of the AFCON finals, there are interesting results emanating from different match venues across the friendly matches’ centers.

Here are the results of the latest friendly matches played:

Ghana 0 Namibia 0

In Kumasi, Ghana’s Black Stars couldn’t break through against a well-organized Namibia. The two teams ended in a goalless draw, but the coaches identified the work that remains to be done before the start of the competition.

Cameroon 1 Zambia 1

In Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where they were in preparation, Cameroon and Zambia held each other to a 1-1 draw. Patson Daka opened the scoring early for the Chipolopolos before Darlin Yongwa equalized for the Indomitable Lions.

Equatorial Guinea 1 Djibouti 1

Another draw in these preparations. This time, Equatorial Guinea couldn’t dominate Djibouti. Carlos Akakpo scored for Nzalang Nacional.

Algeria 4 Burundi 0

Algeria’s Desert Foxes concluded their training in Lomé, Togo, with another impressive victory. After a 3-0 success against the local team of Togo, Djamel Belmadi’s men did it again. A comfortable 4-0 win against Burundi with goals from Baghdad Bounedjah, Riyad Mahrez, Islam Slimani, and Mohamed Amoura.

Senegal 1 Niger 0

The defending champions bid farewell to their supporters with a narrow 1-0 victory over Niger on Monday at the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium. The Lions’ winning goal came deep into added time courtesy of Formose Mendy.

Egypt 2 Tanzania 0

The match between these two teams that have qualified for the AFCON turned in favor of the dominant Pharaohs throughout the game. Mahmoud Trezeguet opened the scoring before Mohamed Salah’s penalty.

For all these teams that have qualified for the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON, it is time to head to Côte d’Ivoire for the final stretch of preparations before entering the competition.
